Saab 99, 1982, Jyväskylä

Up for auction: a piece of Finnish automotive history — a Saab 99 in excellent condition, first registered new in Finland and now on the museum register!

This Saab 99 is from the final production years of its body style and was built in Finland at Valmet Automotive's Uusikaupunki factory. New, it went into service with Oy Shell Ab and over the years has had a few long-term owners.

The car was museum-registered in 2013 with high marks. Its current condition very much matches museum-car standards. I would say this is noticeably tidier and better kept than the average Saab 99. Of course, at almost 45 years old there are some faults... The biggest is the beginning of headliner sag, but it does not affect use and a competent person can fix it easily.

Technically the car runs excellently. I have driven it myself a fair amount — nice running and excellent cold starts!

The car has just been serviced: engine oil and filter, gearbox oil, fuel pump, thermostat, valve-cover gasket and coolant were changed (oil and coolant leaks repaired). In addition, the exhaust system and clutch pack were renewed a few years ago. The underside is in amazingly good condition; cavity coating was done a few years back. Inspection passed without repair orders in May and the next inspection is due by 7 May 2029!

Items that add to its collector value include the original service-and-warranty book, a working Blaupunkt radio from 1982 (original manual and warranty card included!), Saab 99 brochures and a Finnish workshop manual, 2× keys, etc. The package is completed by very good-looking Saab Inca wheels with centre caps (centre caps are particularly hard to find nowadays), the original rear-window grille and a period economy gauge. Only summer tyres fitted; to our knowledge it has not been winter-driven for a long time.
