Read a 2007 news headline online! The CR-V has long been Finland’s best-selling SUV, although the renewed Toyota RAV4 took the top spot last year. It will be interesting to see the battle now that the CR-V has been updated. Many believe the advantage will swing back to the CR-V. With the facelift Honda also removed the spare wheel from the boot lid; the lid is now hinged at the top. The CR-V is pleasant to drive — its centre of gravity has dropped by 25 mm. In corners the Honda behaves stably and the road feel is maintained because the body doesn’t roll excessively. The damping works and you don’t have to avoid larger potholes. The chassis is slightly firm and the car bobs a little on uneven surfaces.

With the new 2-litre petrol engine you get on very well. The engine was developed from Honda’s own 1.8-litre unit.

No strong odours in the interior, but a clean would make it noticeably neater.

The car requires work to pass inspection — see the defect list. Driving permission is valid until 7 June 2026, so there’s plenty of time for repairs. For someone handy it’s not a big job to sort out and you’ll be good for another year.
