Audi A6 Avant – freshly inspected, for sale with minor faults
For sale: Audi A6 Avant, which I have used daily for about 5 years. The car was bought from Saka in 2021 with roughly 105,000 km on the clock. It currently shows 228,523 km and is still used daily. The car is generally very tidy for its age. After some repairs this will remain a sensible everyday car for a long time; it has been serviced regularly and repaired as needed (or at least attempts have been made).
I'm selling now because the family doesn’t need two cars and with the company lease I will no longer arrange or pay for the inspection-recommended repairs myself.
The car has just been inspected, but the inspection included a recommendation to repair the daytime running light and moisture in the headlamp unit.
Right front headlight / housing
The issue is that the car sometimes reports the right front light as if it were completely broken, even though the light does work. My and the garage's view is that moisture inside the housing disrupts operation or triggers the warning.
There is a small crack in the housing. It probably happened in winter when the car’s corner hit a “snow pile” in a parking area that turned out to be mostly sand. (see photo).
I dried the housing with a hairdryer and applied silicone to the crack. The situation improved, but there is still moisture inside the housing. I cannot say for certain whether this is old moisture that has not fully evaporated or whether water is still getting in. The mechanic said if it were his car he would try to get the light working properly and seal the housing, but he will not do such “tweaks” on a customer’s car.
My view is that the sensible solution is to buy a used intact headlight housing and replace it, which would probably solve the problem.
EGR / DPF issue
Another bigger note likely relates to the EGR system. The car has occasionally given DPF / particulate filter type warnings. This has been investigated several times. The first fault code appeared about two years ago. I had the DPF cleaned then, but only a few grams of ash came out, so the filter itself did not seem to be the main problem. After that some sensors were replaced, including parts related to the AdBlue system. The most recent diagnosis was from an Audi-specialist garage, and their view is that the real fault is in the EGR system. According to the mechanic the part itself is not expensive, but dismantling and labour raise the cost. He estimated the job would cost about €1,500–2,000. Someone with the right skills could fix it themselves and either keep a reliable car or make a good profit on resale with only a little effort.
Servicing and repairs
The car has been serviced regularly and parts replaced as needed.
Most recent examples include:
front brake pads replaced in February
engine oil, air filter, cabin filter and oil filter changed in winter about 12,000 km ago
both front shock absorbers replaced about 3 years ago
all brake discs replaced about 2.5 years ago
Equipment
working Webasto
Tires
I would at least replace the front summer tyres myself.
I think the winter tyres will be fine for at least the next winter, possibly two, but that depends on mileage and how particular the buyer is about tyres.
Summary
This is not a faultless car and is not sold as such. On the other hand it is not completely worn out — generally a good, tidy everyday car with known faults described honestly.
For someone handy or familiar with Audis this is still a very good car.
I just don’t want to spend time or money finishing these matters since we no longer need a second car.
The car is used daily, so the mileage may change slightly!
The vehicle must be collected within 7 days of the auction end unless otherwise agreed - Huutokaupat.com.
