Have you always wanted your own police car? Here is the next best thing: a former police car. There are traces of its service on the body and interior.

It was reportedly present when Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met in Helsinki in 2018. Who knows which famous criminals have sat in the back on the way to the cells. As a vehicle used by authorities it has always been serviced according to the service schedule. It has a complete dealer service book — see photos. I am the second owner, so it hasn’t been passed around. I’m selling because my work situation changed. I no longer need a diesel car as my commute is only 1 km once a week. I’ve owned the car for almost three years. It has served me well. The car currently has about 44 litres of diesel in the tank. The tank capacity is 70 litres. Value about €105 at today’s price (€2.409 per litre). Range about 790 km.

During my ownership the following have been replaced:

Summer 2023: front springs and upper bearings

Summer 2024: windscreen

Summer 2024: oil change

Spring 2025: rear shock absorbers, complete set

Summer 2025: bonnet gas strut

(Turbo replaced 8 January 2019, 134,551 km)

This roomy Passat gives a smooth and comfortable ride. Economical yet torquey engine. On the motorway consumption can reach 4.5 l/100 km. Easy driving with an automatic gearbox. The car pulls trailers/boats well.

Smoking has never been allowed in the car and no dogs/animals have been transported.

Very comprehensive equipment:

• 3 keys

• LED daytime running lights

• Bi-xenon low and high beams (adaptive, the beam follows the direction of the car — very handy on dark, winding roads)

• Front fog lights

• Coming-home lights (the car’s lights come on when unlocking with the key); there are also lights under the wing mirrors illuminating the front door area

• Webasto heater (not working)

• Front mud flaps

• Rain sensor

• Roof rails

• Cruise control

• Partially electrically adjustable driver’s seat

• All seats have partial leather covers. I’ve never looked under them, but if fitted when new the seats are probably like new beneath.

• Tinted rear windows

• Load/animal partition between rear seats and boot

• Towing hook

• Parking sensors front and rear with distance display

• Parking assistant — the car parks itself when a suitable gap is found, without the driver turning the wheel

• Paddle shifters

• Tire-change tools

• Electric parking brake

• Automatic climate control, separate settings for each side

• Bracket in the boot for a foam extinguisher (extinguisher not included)

• Tray mat in the boot

• Second battery in the boot

• First-aid kit in the boot (the kit is made by Waloplast, a Finnish company that supplied authorities and the defence forces. The kit is large and comprehensive; the company has ceased operations — it might fetch a good price at auction)

Tyres: Both sets are top-quality Nokian Hakkapeliitta tyres.

Winter tyres in very good condition. Studded tyres on steel wheels with VW hub caps. Remaining tread: 2 × 8.5 mm, 2 × 8.0 mm.

Summer tyres on VW alloy wheels. Remaining tread: 2 × 3.75 mm and 2 × 4.9 mm.

Tread depths measured with a digital gauge.

I can fit the summer tyres if the potential buyer prefers.

Body and interior marks:

• Two holes in the front bumper from warning lights. I have plugged them with black plastic plugs.

• The windscreen has a chip and a crack after the replacement. A windscreen repair sticker was applied immediately to stop moisture and dirt and prevent worsening. The crack is on the right side, running from the top edge downwards, about 24 cm long. It does not obstruct the field of view or inspection.

• There is a point on the roof where the beacon wiring is connected

• Two holes per roof rail from the beacon mounting

• There are six holes in the roof from antennas; I have glued white metal patches over them

• The boot floor panel is missing; I have used one wheel from a spare-wheel well as a support under the plastic mat which has worked fine for me. For a flatter floor you could fit a plywood board or source a proper panel from a breaker.

• Holes in the dashboard and centre console from installed police equipment. A hole in the centre console. It hasn’t bothered me; you can cover it with tape, replace the trim or add a badge for an authentic look.

Then the negatives:

• The dual-mass flywheel makes a noise; the car is still driveable. Replacement would cost €950 at Kamitec in Lohja, specialised in Volkswagen Group vehicles.

• The trip computer indicates a scheduled inspection; cost estimated €334 at Motonet garage in Lohja.

• Last week I noticed the windscreen washer fluid does not come out. The washer pump is probably broken. A new pump costs €12.90 at Motonet.

• Boot interior light does not work

• The blower reportedly does not blow warm air to the right-front footwell

• The right front seat belt does not always latch on the first try — fault in the catch

• The right-hand xenon headlight lights for a moment then goes out for about two seconds, then lights again briefly and repeats. The fault has not been investigated further — possibly a failing bulb or ballast?

As you can tell from the listing I’ve tried to be as transparent as possible about the car.

The car is located near Lohja town centre. Contact weekdays 15:00–21:00, weekends 10:00–21:00.
