Ion production requires an ioniser module inside the unit. Ozone plates do not produce ions.

If the device you buy is claimed to produce negative ions, check that the unit contains the ion-producing component shown in the last picture.

ABOUT IONISATION:
Negative ions produced into indoor air cause small, positively charged airborne particles to cluster and fall out of the breathing zone as they become heavier molecules.

Negative ionisation also breaks down volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air, which are very harmful when inhaled. Toxic compounds produced by microbes, which enter indoor air as aerosols, form a significant health hazard when they reach the lungs and bloodstream. Heavy microbial toxins that are not dispersed in the air cause harm mainly via spores, which are producers of these dangerous toxins.

The effectiveness of ozone (O3) and negative ionisation depends on high concentrations.

When a unit produces negative ions in addition to ozone, its effectiveness is 5–10 times better than ozone alone, and high concentrations remove spores and odours effectively even from porous materials such as upholstered furniture and bedding.

Fine particles in indoor air pose a serious health threat in homes and workplaces.

Harmful fine particles travel with inhaled air into the deep lungs (alveoli) and into the bloodstream, causing serious health problems beyond asthma and allergies.

Ozonation and negative ionisation clean indoor air of harmful fine particles and additionally remove bacteria, moulds, viruses and various gases.

    Ozonation and negative ionisation work especially effectively in a positively pressurised building.

    Ozone and negative ionisation together form compounds that effectively remove microbial spores and various odours, for example sewer gases, smoke smells, bacterial and mould toxins, and persistent cooking and smoking odours.

    Ozone and negative ionisation also remove fine particles and MVOC (Microbial Volatile Organic Compounds) and VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) from the air.

    Ozonation and negative ionisation produce pleasant, easy-to-breathe indoor air — a clean environment where people feel well.

Indoor ozonation cannot be performed while people are present, because ozone is produced massively to destroy microbial spores. The combined effect of high ozone concentration and negative ionisation achieves good cleaning results even in porous materials. After air cleaning the treated space is ventilated and occupants may return.
