Ion production requires an ioniser unit inside the machine. Ozone plates do not produce ions.

ABOUT IONISATION:
Negative ions produced into indoor air cause light, positively charged particles suspended in the air to attach to them and form larger, heavier particles that quickly settle out of the breathing zone.

Negative ionisation also breaks down volatile organic compounds in the air, which are harmful when inhaled indoors. Toxic compounds produced by various microbes that become aerosolised in indoor air (= microbial volatile organic compounds) pose a major health risk if they reach the lungs and bloodstream. Heavy microbial toxins that do not mix into indoor air cause harm mainly via spores, which are the carriers of these dangerous toxins.

The effectiveness of ozone (O3) and negative ionisation of air is based on high concentrations.

When a device produces negative ions in addition to ozone, the effectiveness compared with ozone alone is 5–10 times better, and high concentrations remove spores and odours effectively even from porous materials, such as upholstery and bedding.

Fine particles in indoor air pose a serious health risk in homes and workplaces.

Harmful fine particles travel via breathing to the deep lung (alveoli) and into the bloodstream and cause serious health problems besides asthma and allergy.

    Ozonation and negative ionisation work especially effectively in a positively pressured building.

    Ozone and negative ionisation together produce compounds that can effectively remove microbial spores and various odours, for example sewer gases, smoke smells, bacterial and mould toxins, and persistent cooking and smoking odours.

    Ozone and negative ionisation also remove fine particles and MVOC (microbial volatile organic compounds) and VOC (volatile organic compounds) from the air.

Indoor ozonation cannot be performed while people are present, because ozone is produced massively to destroy microbial spores.
