This 2002 1.8 L petrol Passat is for spares or can be repaired for daily use. I have owned the car since 2020 and used it normally (commuting, shopping, etc.), but it has been standing since the end of January. It will not pass the next inspection without repairs. Next inspection due by 4 March 2026, so there is still time to get a more detailed fault list at the inspection station.


Known defects:

  • Exhaust pipe completely broken, at the front near the flex section.

  • Check-engine light on; when read it showed a fault code for the lambda (oxygen) sensor 2. Therefore it will not pass emissions. Fault codes have not been read since spring, so there may be other issues.

  • Minor front-end collision in summer 2025, leaving the right front corner of the bumper slightly loose (visible in photos).

  • Central locking does not work on the right rear door for some reason. Other doors lock normally with the key.

  • Feels like the turbo is stuck and not boosting properly. This can be checked on a test drive; I cannot say exactly what is wrong.

  • Some rust damage; worst spots shown in photos.

  • Glovebox lid locking mechanism broken, does not stay closed (visible in photos).

  • Turn-signal relay often keeps clicking. Probably fixable with contact cleaner.

  • Uses a little oil. Fault not located; apparently common for VWs of this age.

  • Radio stations not received due to the antenna. Bluetooth works normally.


Some positives:

  • Timing components replaced October 2024

  • Windscreen replaced November 2024

  • Wear parts replaced as required

  • Two sets of tyres: winter tyres OK (alloy wheels), summer tyres poor (steel wheels + caps)

  • Interior reasonably tidy with normal wear; no loose trims.

  • Working automatic air conditioning


Offered cheaply and with reasonable work can be made fully roadworthy.

Decommissioned (deregistered): Standard deregistration 24 January 2026 - The vehicle is currently off the road but will be returned to use after the sale is completed.
