Honda Monkey 'matching numbers' 1976 yellow, Vantaa

Rare green small-tank project with the original, working engine and a known history!

In 1976 the colour options were yellow and green, and only 1,265 of these were sold new in total.

The moped's history is known for 30 years. The previous owner had it for 20 years and the one before that for 8 years. Documents are available.

Matching numbers frame 1113638, engine 1113381, confirmed by Brandt (already in 2006). The moped was originally a yellow small-tank model and was sold new on 9 September 1976 from Saloniemi & Co.

There are no records at Trafi; transfer documents are also available.

Good points:

• Extremely rare model — only 1,265 yellow and green units were made in total.

• Original so-called "German model" large tank and chrome mudguards, which were generally destroyed by Brandt at Trafi's request during the Finnish-model lightening work.

• Engine runs. The moped has been stored in a garage and may need starting/tinkering.

• Year and colour details confirmed by Brandt. This level of documentation is no longer available from Brandt (photo from the order book).

• Matching-numbers project whose value should be preserved.

Bad points:

• Requires restoration / a full or at least partial overhaul.

• Engine operation has been tested, but it is sold as a whole to be repaired.

• Some parts missing: at least the yellow plastic side panel (can be bought new), front and rear lights.

• The exhaust guard is from a newer model.

Attached are a couple of illustrative photos of a similar new "Finnish model" from 1976 and pictures of how the moped arrived in Finland before the weight-limit-led lightening. On this moped the original larger tank and mudguards are in place. Replaced parts were at one point supplied with the new bike and sometimes buyers refitted the originals. Later these were discarded and the chrome mudguards and larger tank were destroyed at Trafi's demand by the importer.
