Ready to use, the freezing toilet needs no water connection, sewer or extra ventilation. Simply plug it into a socket. Its portability and plug & play installation make it an ideal choice for summer cottages and any space without sewage. The oval 21-litre inner bucket fits a biodegradable bag that can be removed hygienically for composting.

Outstanding energy efficiency
Ekohytte Frost has been engineered with energy economy in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra-thick insulation make it extremely economical. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh per 24 h — roughly half the consumption of comparable competitors. The thick base insulation and high adjustable feet require the freezing toilet to be installed in a heated space.

Before use

• After unpacking, check the product for damage. Contact the seller if you find any defects.

• Leave the unit upright for at least 30 minutes. Any oil that may have moved into the cooling circuit during transport will then return to the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Before use, adjust them so the toilet stands firmly and level.

• The seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything that will not compost, e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed indoors in a warm space. It can be used on underfloor heated floors thanks to the thick base insulation and high feet. Heat increases electricity consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. Optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. Ensure the toilet is level and secure using the feet.

• Press the bio-bag into the bottom of the bucket and fold its top edges over the rim so the bucket can be dropped into the seat.

• Ensure the bucket handle is inside so the seat and lid close properly.

• Plug into the mains and switch the toilet on; the green indicator will light.

• Wait about one hour before use.

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two-thirds full, replace the bio-bag.

• Tuck the top edges of the bio-bag into the bucket and lift the bucket out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden compost bin, adding plenty of dry cover material before emptying.

• Pierce the bag surface, e.g. with a fork, and cover with a layer of dry material.

• Check for ice buildup around the bucket well. Defrost and dry the walls if necessary.

• Place a new bag in position.

Use of cover material
No cover material is needed with a freezing toilet. Cover material is only required for subsequent composting.

Cleaning
Wipe the Ekohytte with a damp cloth. You may use any household cleaners. The bucket can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before replacing. Do not use water to clean the rear cooling compartment. Clean the rear wall once a year by vacuuming.

Longer periods out of use

• Unplug the unit

• Empty, clean and dry the bucket and cooling compartment

• Leave the lid open

• The unit may be stored in an unheated space
