Well-preserved Ford Thunderbird in original condition.

Imported from Sweden in April. According to the seller the car was repainted 15 years ago. The original colour is shown in the attached Carfax report. The Carfax report lists roughly 100 miles, but the odometer is in miles, so the true mileage in kilometres is likely about 163,000 km. The car was imported to Sweden in 2005 and was the owner’s pride. He passed away and his son sold the car. I bought it as a second hobby car, but am now selling to fund the restoration of a previously acquired 1977 Ford F-150. I really do not want to sell it because the car is fantastic. It attracts admiration everywhere — on the road and wherever it is parked — and seems especially popular with women. No wonder!


The pictures speak for themselves. Notably, the car comes with a Ford Thunderbird scale model. According to the seller this model was supplied when the buyer ordered a second new car from the factory. The model’s base has the car’s equipment list printed on it. I suspect the scale model may be rarer than the car — it might even be more valuable. The car also includes the original owner’s manual and the factory hang tag that used to hang on the rear-view mirror. In addition there is older Thunderbird literature, parts lists, and similar items.


The vehicle is eligible for museum registration. The only reason it has not been registered as a museum vehicle relates to the wheels; they are not acceptable as they are. The original hubcaps are kept safe, however. Fitting them to the wheels under the car for the inspection only requires a little handiwork. I can arrange the inspection if needed — I have the contacts and means. The car also has a reserved indoor winter storage place. It can be moved to your own garage immediately or in the spring.


Also, so-called fender skirts (covers that fit over the rear wheel arches) are available from my storage if you want them fitted to the car.

Defects and other observations

The suspension needs updating. It appears the left rear shock absorber has worn over the years. Also, water has at some point entered the boot so there is corroded sheet metal on both sides in a limited area at the base of the lid. These spots are easily accessible and on straight sections of metal. There is plenty of room and the repairs are straightforward. I can help arrange assistance if required.


The gear selector is worn. Starting the car requires a light movement of the gear selector from its position. The indicator stalk is worn; the indicators work but the stalk may need a small movement to engage them.


The ammeter light does not illuminate and the instrument panel lighting is somewhat intermittent. Turning the light switch helps.
