Technically functional, the mechanics are in very good condition for the mileage. Runs smoothly, shifts well, no rattles or knocks.

The inspection is valid until June 2026. Good summer tyres (September 2024), and winter tyres (2017 Kumho, in good condition) are included.


The car has repairable faults. Something knocks in the steering. From our investigation, we suspect the steering rack needs replacing. New, reconditioned and used parts from breakers are available. Prices range from €100–1,250. The brake-fluid warning light is on. We found the rear brake circuit empty and located a leak in the driver’s-side brake line above the rear differential (repair required before use on the road). This fault also triggers the traction-control warning. The right front parking light does not work.

In addition, there are rust spots in all the places typical for the BMW E39: boot lid, rear arches, the side edges above the rear bumper, front/rear ends of the sill, etc. We took photos of them — please study the pictures carefully.


There is just enough to do that professional workshop repair is not worth it. Still doable for an enthusiast at reasonable cost.

Three-litre petrol E39s are not very common for sale. At the moment the cheapest on Nettiauto is about €4,000 — which in our view appears to be in significantly worse condition than this car. This car is tidy inside and not really that bad outside, although the rust spots do affect the overall impression. As always, we advise bidders to come and inspect the car in person to verify its condition. That avoids disagreements.
