Fine cap-lock muff pistol made for a wealthy lady, c. 1850.

Genuine, no purchase permit required.

Muzzle-loaded.

Length about 16 cm and calibre about 12 mm.

Made for a woman for self-defence; would fit in a muff, pocket, bag or hand.

Magnificent, rarer luxury model with fine engravings!

Concealed trigger — the trigger rises when the gun is cocked into firing position.

The mechanism does not work as it should: the spring and all parts are intact but the trigger does not rise when cocked, so it does not lock.

Parts appear complete when I looked inside; likely reassembled incorrectly in a previous service or worn.

Needs repair/service to be brought into good firing condition;

in this condition it can only be fired manually by pulling the striker back and releasing it.
