For a cottage or any space without plumbing
Ready-to-use freezing toilet requires no water supply, drain or built ventilation. Simply plug the unit into a socket. Its portability and plug-&play installation make it an optimal choice for summer cottages and any unplumbed space. The oval 21-litre inner container under the seat is easy and hygienic to empty into a compost bin thanks to a biodegradable bag.

Outstanding energy efficiency
Energy economy was a key focus in the design of the Ekohytte Frost. Optimised compressor technology and extra-thick insulation make the unit extremely economical. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh/day — about half the power of comparable competing products. Thick base insulation and high adjustable feet allow installation on heated floors.

Luxury for the cottage setting
Besides minimal electricity use, Ekohytte Frost stands out for its beautiful, minimalist design. Unlike other manufacturers, the seat ring is insulated, and a hot-gas pipe running under the ring uses compressor waste heat to warm the seat. Seat heating power is modest so it does not disturb the freezing process, but it prevents the seat ring from holding cold. Comfort is completed by a soft-close lid. The well-sealed, well-insulated unit runs infrequently and is quiet when operating.

Before use

• Leave the unit standing upright for at least 30 minutes. Any oil that may have entered the circuit during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Set them before use so the toilet stands securely and level.

• The seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything non-compostable in it, e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
Place the toilet in a warm indoor space. It can be used on underfloor-heated floors due to its thick base insulation and high feet. Heat increases the unit's power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. Optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. The toilet seat must be level and secured with the adjustable feet.

Use

• Press the biodegradable bag into the base of the inner container and fold its edges over the top so the container can be placed into the seat

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly

• Plug into a socket and switch the unit on so the green indicator lights

• Wait about one hour before first use

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two-thirds full, replace the biodegradable bag

• Fold the top of the bag into the container and lift the container out of the seat

• Compost the contents in a household or garden composter, adding plenty of bulking material before emptying

• Pierce the bag surface (e.g. with a garden fork) and cover with a layer of bulking material

• Check for any ice build-up around the underside of the bucket. Defrost if necessary and dry the sides.

• Fit a new bag

Use of bulking material
No bulking material is required in the freezing toilet. Bulking material is only needed for post-composting.

Cleaning
Clean Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use standard household cleaners. The inner container can be removed and washed with water. Dry it before replacing. Do not use water to clean the rear cooling chamber. Clean this once a year by vacuuming.

Longer periods out of use

• Unplug the unit

• Empty, clean and dry the inner container and cooling chamber

• Leave the lid open

• The unit may be stored in an unheated space
