Ion production requires an ioniser unit inside the machine. Ozone plates do not produce ions.

If the device you buy is claimed to produce negative ions, check that it contains the ion-producing component shown in the last picture.

ON IONISATION:
Negative ions produced indoors cause light, positively charged airborne particles to cluster and fall out of the breathing zone as the larger, heavier particles rapidly settle.

Negative ionisation also breaks down volatile organic compounds in the air that are harmful when inhaled. Toxic compounds produced by microbes (microbial toxins) mixed into indoor air as aerosols form a major health risk if they penetrate the lungs and enter the bloodstream. Heavy microbial toxins that are not mixed into the indoor air cause harm mainly via spores, which are the producers of these toxic agents.

The effectiveness of ozone (O3) and negative ionisation depends on high concentrations.

When the device produces negative ions as well as ozone, its effectiveness is 5–10 times greater than ozone alone and high concentrations remove spores and odours effectively even from porous materials, for example upholstered furniture and bedding.

Fine particles in indoor air pose a serious health risk in homes and workplaces.

Harmful fine particles travel with inhaled air into the deep lung (alveoli) and into the bloodstream, causing serious health problems in addition to asthma and allergies.

    Ozonation and negative ionisation work particularly well in pressurised buildings.

    Ozone and negative ionisation together form compounds that remove microbial spores and various odours effectively, for example sewer gases, smoke odours, bacterial and mould toxins, and stubborn cooking and tobacco odours.

    Ozone and negative ionisation also remove fine particles and MVOCs and VOCs from the air.

    Ozonation and negative ionisation produce a pleasant, easy-to-breathe indoor air where people feel comfortable.

    Ozone and negative ionisation together produce very clean indoor air suitable for workplaces.

Indoor ozonation cannot be carried out while people are present because ozone is produced in high concentrations to destroy microbial spores.
