A torque wrench is a precision instrument for setting tightening torque. It is designed to tighten threaded fastenings so the load is known and matched to the strength of the material and the bolt and nut. The torque wrench is especially suitable for vehicle work and other situations where the manufacturer specifies an exact tightening torque.

The wrench works with a mechanical click mechanism that makes a "click" sound when the set torque is reached. The torque scale is in the handle and adjustment is made by turning the handle. Once the desired torque is set, the wrench is locked with the safety catch at the end of the handle.
