For sale — a Passat returned in part-exchange. Inspection valid for almost a year and only one service should be due later as noted below.


It has had a small knock to the front corner and would benefit from a proper polish and detailing to look good. However, surprisingly little rust for a Passat of this age.


The main fault found is that exhaust gas temperature sensor 1 (unfortunately not the more accessible sensor 2) is shorted and causes the glow-plug warning light to flash, and occasionally the engine light to come on (which must be cleared with a reader, but no other codes are present when checked with VDCS). Because of this sensor the engine is currently running rich; a new sensor has already been ordered and will be fitted as soon as it arrives regardless of weather, so the diesel particulate filter is not damaged by running rich. If it does not arrive before collection, I will send it afterwards.


The engine plastics have been removed to access that sensor and the covers will be included.


Otherwise it drives well, the suspension does not knock and the engine seems to pull well despite the sensor. The timing belt was changed shortly before 300,000 km, so it still has life left, and the service book contains a good number of entries.


The interior is tidy for the mileage. It could use ozone treatment though, as there is occasionally a smell suggesting the car has been smoked in.


Decent winter tyres fitted and I can include the 17-inch wheels that were under an A3 for summer tyres; most of those tyres were kept only for protection in storage and have little tread left (some have under 1 mm)...
