Solid oak plank table top

A high-quality solid oak plank table top consists of two "planks" made from 3.6 cm thick glued board. We try to select planks with shades as close to each other as possible, but as with natural wood some shade variations may occur between pieces. Each top is unique, as the wood’s colour and grain depend on growing conditions.

The surface is lacquered, so it does not require regular oil maintenance. The top is lacquered three times with a water-based matt lacquer intended for indoor use. The surface is slightly brushed to emphasise the oak’s natural characteristics and bring out the wood texture. Knots are a natural part of solid wood. Knots may have narrow cracks, which can be filled. The surface is not perfectly smooth; oak has a slightly coarse texture that can be felt by hand. Because of this, there may be small differences in sheen in the lacquered surface.

Care instructions For cleaning wooden parts, we recommend using a slightly damp soft cloth. If a liquid is spilled, wipe it away before it dries. If necessary, dirty areas can be cleaned with a mild detergent or soap. Rinse and dry the cleaned area. Do not use strong or abrasive cleaners. Avoid placing corrosive substances or hot pans and similar items directly on the bare table surface.

Material Oak

Material, additional information Oak is very hard and durable and therefore dense. This causes natural movement with changes in humidity. In heated indoor air in winter the wood dries and shrinks, and in summer it absorbs moisture and swells. This variation can be 7–9 mm in a one-metre-wide top. The top may warp slightly in winter but will correct in summer or vice versa. This is a natural property of wood and cannot be completely eliminated. Small hairline cracks caused by wood movement are typical for oak and do not weaken the top or affect its lifespan or durability. Wood reacts to light within weeks or months and its shade changes compared to a new surface. This is a natural property and not a defect. Objects left on the top can also leave marks where the rest of the top receives more light.
