The torque wrench is a precise instrument for setting torque. It is designed to tighten threaded joints so the clamping force is known and matched to the material used and the strength of the bolt and nut. The wrench is especially suitable for vehicle work and other situations where the manufacturer specifies an exact tightening torque.

The wrench uses a mechanical click mechanism that produces a "click" when the set torque is reached. The torque scale is in the handle and the setting is made by turning the handle. Once the desired torque is set, the wrench is locked with a safeguard at the end of the handle.
