Conformity of items
The condition, useful life, and updatability of items sold used do not generally correspond to items sold new. Most items on sale are used. In order to assess the situation, please take note of the manufacturing year of the item. Even if wear etc. is not explicitly mentioned in the item listing, wear is inevitably in normal use and thus any mention of “good condition” should be assessed in relation to the age of the item.
Huutokaupat.com does not import or manufacture the items it sells and does not undertake to offer updates to any items comprising digital elements beyond what is offered by the seller or importer who has placed the item in question on the market as new.
Any accessories and packaging should be specified in the listing, and if no mention of such is made, these items are assumed not to exist.
When is an item considered defective?
Items are considered defective if, for example,
- The item is not suitable for the intended purpose
- The item does not correspond to the information included in the listing
- The item does not meet requirements provided by law or authorities
However, the buyer cannot appeal as a defect to a circumstance they would be expected to have been aware of at the time of the purchase (based on the listing, for example).
Expected useful life of an item
A fault resulting from the normal wear of the product or its component over time or the need for repairs due to such wear or incorrect use shall not be considered a defect.
Many of the product we sell are consumer durables that require regular maintenance. The buyer is responsible use of the product in accordance with the instructions and its proper maintenance.
If a defect is observed within 12 months of the reception of the item, the defect is assumed to have existed in the product at the time of delivery unless the defect is caused by normal wear or incorrect use, or the defect was known at the time of purchase.
The expected useful life of a product and its components varies based on the intended purpose, make, model, history of use, and service history, for example. Do note that most consumer durables reach the end of their useful life within 5–10 years.
Expected useful life of a car
Do note that even if issues emerge in the item within 12 months of the transaction, the issue will not be considered a defect if the vehicle or its component in question has reached the end of its useful life.
Thus, used cars are not subject to a guarantee and instead the statutory liability for lack of conformity is applied.
The expected useful life of a car and its components varies based on the intended purpose, make, model, history of use, and service history, for example. Included below are examples of the typical useful life of automotive parts:
- Motor 300,000 km / 10 years
- Turbocharger 200,000 km / 10 years
- Gearbox 200,000 km / 10 years
- Alternator 150,000 km / 4–6 years
- Cylinder head 240,000 km/ 10 years
- Flywheel 200,000 km / 10 years
- Exhaust 50,000 km
- AC compressor 200,000 km / 10 years
